Finnish Wikileaks-domain transferred to Pirate Party Youth Org |

Journalist and activist Peter Sjöholm has transferred the stewardship of the domain name Wikileaks.fi to Piraattinuoret, the youth organization of the Finnish Pirate Party.
- “After having maintained the domain name for more than three years, this feels like the right thing to do,” says Peter Sjöholm.
Sjöholm registered Wikileaks.fi in February of 2008 after an American court ruling closed the original domain name, Wikileaks.org. Following this, he has made it possible to access Wikileaks through the Finnish internet address.
- “Back in 2008, only a handful of ways of accessing Wikileaks were available. Lately, the situation has improved. Moving forward, I want to move the responsibility to someone else. Piraattinuoret stand out in questions concerning free speech online, which make them a fitting choice”, says Sjöholm.
Piraattinuoret gladly accepted this responsibilty. In several other European countries, the local pirate parties maintain and host Wikileaks mirror sites.
- “Wikileaks as a publication is under tremendous responsibility, faces internal challenges and is far from being a very refined concept. However, they offer an important and sound counterbalance against the geopolitical powers that be,” states Piraattinuoret CTO Thomas Nybergh.
Piraattinuoret intends to launch a full mirror of the public Wikileaks site within the near future on the address Wikileaks.fi.
